It’s the harsh truth.
No ones coming to save you and unfortunately when you loose momentum you’re the only one who can start that back up.
As a full time creative i’ve been in too many situations where I was “Crushing it” and had mistaken “crushing it” for momentum but the crushing it is a fruit from your momentum it is not momentum. It’s just a by-product that sometimes happens.
Let me say that again…
When good things are happening for you and you feel like life is on your side and all the stars have aligned and your grandma is bringing you over fresh cookies and warm milk that is not momentum that is the fruit from momentum.
A million tiny positive actions.
Momentum is not a feeling.
It’s an action.
More times then not the fruit that comes from momentum “Feels” good.
I’ve been caught in situations where I had months and months of amazing work and I got caught in the feel good and let off my momentum and was caught in a sticky place once the work was over and there was nothing coming in.
Here are 3 easy ways to build momentum:
Reach outs. Start with just spending 10-20mins a day and just send text messages or dms to people. Depending on what you do the message would vary but here is an example:
Yo! Man I love your work. Keep inspiring. If you’re ever in need of an artist im your guy and would be honored to do some work for you. ( I would also send a couple pictures of my best work) Or it could be a link of some sort. The point here is to have something they can look at and it should be your best work.Use this method for anything you’re going after, meeting new friends, wanting to learn something, looking for work, collaboration etc…
Spend 10mins in the morning writting down how you can be proactive and what you can do to get there. EX: I need to make $200 this week. Then dream up exactly what you could do to get that done and then add that to your work flow and take action.
Smile at everyone you see and if they make eye contact say hi and if they say hi back toss them a compliment. Ex: Love the colors on your shoes. You’ll be amazed at how much momentum you can gain from putting good out there.
When things start to “feel” good don’t stop your momentum. Keep the good flowin! You’ll never be “there”. This is an on-going loop that keeps repeating and the goal is to keep it spiraling up. Keep in mind when your actions stop so does everything else that comes with it. If a fruit tree stops growing it no longer will produce any fruit. Keep Growin!
ALL IS POSSIBLE.
